3rd
Sunday after Pentecost / St. Onuphrius the Great / St.
Peter the Athonite
Beatitudes on 12, Octoechos: 4; St. Onuphrius: 4, from Ode 3; St. Peter: 4, from Ode 6.
1. We offer Thee the cry of the thief, and we pray: Remember us in Thy kingdom, O Savior.
2. For the forgiveness of transgressions we offer unto Thee the Cross which Thou didst accept for our sake, O Thou who lovest mankind.
3. We bow down in worship, O Master, before Thy burial and rising, whereby Thou hast delivered the world from corruption, O Thou Who lovest mankind.
4. By Thy death hath death been slain, O Lord, and by Thy resurrection hast Thou saved the world, O Savior.
5 & 6. Following the vision of the angel, thou didst attain unto the desert; and having caused carnal pleasures to wither away through abstinence, thou didst live angelically therein, O blessed one.
7. Shown forth as a tree planted by springs of the waters of abstinence, O father Onuphrius, thou didst truly produce the fruit of the virtues in due season through husbandry.
8. Having shone forth from the desert like a most radiant star upon the world, thou didst
enlighten the assemblies of the pious and faithful with the beams of thy struggles, O Onuphrius our venerable father.
9. Made steadfast by the might of the Spirit, thou didst bring low all the might of the enemy; and as a victor thou didst hasten, crowned, unto Christ.
10. Following in the footsteps of the preeminent Peter, the rock of faith, O venerable one, thou didst take his name, and wast richly enriched with faith.
11. Thou didst struggle in divine feats, O father, and didst keep the faith; and the crown of good works was added unto thee.
12. The Lord dwelt within thy womb and deified all human nature, O pure one; and He hath drawn to Him a multitude of the venerable by sanctity.
Troparia
Tone 2: When Thou didst descend unto death, O Life Immortal, /
then didst Thou slay Hades with the lightning of Thy Divinity. /
And when Thou didst also raise the dead out of the nethermost depths, /
all the Hosts of the heavens cried out: //
O Life-giver, Christ our God, glory be to Thee.
[Troparion

Glory… Tone 4: O God of our Fathers, /
Who ever dealest with us
according to Thy gentleness, /
withdraw not Thy mercy
from us, /
but by their entreaties //
govern our life in peace.
Both now… Tone 4:
The mystery hidden from before
the ages /
and unknown even to the
angels, /
through thee, O Theotokos,
hath been revealed to those on earth: /
God incarnate in
unconfused union, /
Who willingly accepted the
Cross for our sake /
and thereby raising up the
first-formed man, //
hath saved our souls from death.

Kontakia
Tone 2: Thou didst rise from the tomb, O omnipotent Savior, /
and Hades was terrified on
beholding the wonder; /
and the dead arose, /
and creation at the sight
thereof rejoiceth with Thee. /
And Adam also is joyful,
//
and the world, O my
Savior, praiseth Thee for ever.
[Kontakion
of the Temple]
Tone 3:
Illumined by the radiance of the all-holy Spirit, O divinely wise one, /
thou didst forsake all the
tumults of life; /
and on reaching the
desert, O venerable father, /
thou didst gladded God the
Creator, Who is over all things. /
Wherefore, Christ, the
great Bestower of gifts, //
doth glorify thee, O
blessed one.
Glory… Tone 2: Having withdrawn thyself from human companionship, /
out of divine desire and love for thy Lord, O Peter, /
thou didst dwell in caves of stone and deep ravines; /
and thou didst receive from Him a crown. //
Pray thou unceasingly, that we be saved.
Both now... Tone 6: O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, /
O mediation unto the
Creator unfailing, /
disdain not the suppliant
voices of sinners, /
but be thou quick, O good
one, to help us who in faith cry unto thee; /
hasten to intercession and
speed thou to make supplication, //
thou who dost ever
protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.
