10th
Sunday after Pentecost / Martyrs Photius and Anicetas / Afterfeast of
the Transfiguration
Beatitudes on 10: Octoechos: 6; Feast: 4, from Ode 7.
1. Through food did the enemy lead Adam forth from
paradise; but by the Cross hath
Christ led back to it the
thief who cried: Remember me when Thou
comest in Thy
kingdom!
2. With Adam and the thief I worship Thy
sufferings and glorify Thy resurrection; and I
cry out with a splendid
voice: Remember me, O Lord, when Thou
comest in Thy
kingdom!
3. O Sinless One, of Thine own will Thou wast
crucified and placed in the Tomb, yet
Thou didst arise as God,
raising up with Thyself Adam who crieth out: Remember me
when Thou comest in Thy
kingdom!
4. Raising up the temple of Thy body by Thy
resurrection on the third day, O Christ God,
Thou didst raise up Adam
and his descendants who cry: Remember me when Thou
comest in Thy kingdom!
5. Very early, the myrrh-bearing women arrived,
weeping, at Thy tomb, O Christ God;
and they found an angel
sitting there, clad in white garments, who said: What seek ye?
Christ is risen! Lament no longer!
6. When Thine apostles went to the mountain whither Thou hadst commanded them to
go, and saw Thee, O
Savior, they worshipped Thee; and Thou didst send them unto the
nations, to teach and
baptize them.
7. Illumined by the light of unapproachable
glory on Mount Tabor, the apostles cried out
to Christ: “O God of our fathers,
blessed art Thou!”
8. Enraptured by the
effulgence of the divine voice, the dew-bearing cloud and the
radiance, O Christ, the
apostles chanted: “O God of our fathers, blessed art Thou!”
9. Now have invisible
things become visible to the apostles:
the Divinity which shone
forth in the flesh on
Mount Tabor upon those who cry: Blessed
art Thou forever, O Lord
God!
10. The apostles were
moved to awe by fear on Mount Tabor, marveling at the majesty of
the kingdom of God, and
crying out: Blessed art Thou forever, O
Lord God!
Troparia
Tone 1: When
the stone had been sealed by the Jews, /
And the soldiers were
guarding Thine immaculate Body, /
Thou didst arise on the
third day, O Savior, /
granting life unto the
world. /
Wherefore, the Hosts of the
Heavens cried out to Thee, O Life-giver: /
Glory to Thy Resurrection,
O Christ. /
Glory to Thy kingdom. //
Glory to Thy dispensation,
O only Lover of mankind.
[Troparion of
the Temple]
Glory… Tone
4: In their sufferings O Lord, /
Thy martyrs received imperishable crowns from Thee, our God; /
for, possessed of Thy might, /
they cast down the tormentors and set at naught the feeble
audacity of the demons. //
By their supplications save our souls.
Both now… Tone 7: Thou
wast transfigured on the mountain, O Christ our God, /
showing to Thy
disciples Thy glory as each one could endure; /
shine forth Thou on us,
who are sinners all, Thy light ever-unending /
through the prayers of
the Theotokos. O Light-giver, glory be
to Thee.

Gospel [Matt. 17:14-23 (§72)]
Kontakia
Tone 1: As
God, Thou didst arise from the tomb in glory, /
and Thou didst raise the
world together with Thyself. /
And mortal nature praiseth
Thee as God, /
and death hath vanished. /
And Adam danceth, O
Master, /
and Eve, now freed from
fetters, rejoiceth as she crieth out: /
Thou art He, O Christ, //
that grantest unto all
resurrection.
Glory… [Kontakion of the Temple]
Both now... Tone 7: On the mount Thou wast
transfigured, /
and Thy disciples, as
much as they could bear, beheld Thy glory, O Christ God; /
so that when they
should see Thee crucified, /
they would know thy
passion to be willing, /
and would preach to the
world //
that Thou, in truth,
art the Effulgence of the Father.
Instead of “It is truly
meet…” we chant the Irmos of the 9th Ode of the First Canon of
the feast, Forth Tone:
Refrain: Magnify, O my soul, the Lord transfigured on
Tabor.
Irmos: Thy birthgiving was undefiled: /
God came forth from thy
womb, /
and He appeared upon
earth /
wearing flesh and made
His dwelling among men; //
therefore
we all magnify thee, O Theotokos.
