10th Sunday After Pentecost / St. Emilian the Confessor / Afterfeast of the Transfiguration

Beatitudes on 10: Octoechos: 6; Feast: 4, from Ode 3.

1.  Through food did the enemy lead Adam forth from paradise; but by the Cross hath Christ led back to it the thief who cried:  Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

2.  With Adam and the thief I worship Thy sufferings and glorify Thy resurrection; and I cry out with a splendid voice:  Remember me, O Lord, when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

3.  O Sinless One, of Thine own will Thou wast crucified and placed in the Tomb, yet Thou didst arise as God, raising up with Thyself Adam who crieth out: Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

4.  Raising up the temple of Thy body by Thy resurrection on the third day, O Christ God, Thou didst raise up Adam and his descendants who cry: Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

5.  Very early, the myrrh-bearing women arrived, weeping, at Thy tomb, O Christ God; and they found an angel sitting there, clad in white garments, who said: What seek ye?  Christ is risen!  Lament no longer!

6.  When Thine apostles went to the mountain whither Thou hadst commanded them to go, and saw Thee, O Savior, they worshipped Thee; and Thou didst send them unto the nations, to teach and baptize them.

7.  Having put on all of Adam and transformed the nature which of old had become dark, Thou didst illumine it with the transformation of Thine appearance and didst render it divine, O Christ.

8. Christ, Who of old guided Israel in the wilderness by the pillar of fire and the cloud, hath ineffably shone forth in light today on Mount Tabor.

9.  The overshadowing glory in the tabernacle of old, when Thou didst converse with Moses, Thy favored one, was a figure of Thy transfiguration which shone forth ineffably on Tabor, O Master.

10.  Being complete God, Thou becamest wholly of earth, uniting humanity to Thy whole divinity in Thy hypostasis, which Moses and Elijah beheld on Mount Tabor in two natures.

Troparia

Tone 1: When the stone had been sealed by the Jews, /

And the soldiers were guarding Thine immaculate Body, /

Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, /

granting life unto the world. /

Wherefore, the Hosts of the Heavens cried out to Thee, O Life-giver: /

Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ. /

Glory to Thy kingdom. //

Glory to Thy dispensation, O only Lover of mankind.

Glory… [Troparion of the Temple]

Both now… Tone 7:  Thou wast transfigured on the mountain, O Christ our God, /

showing to Thy disciples Thy glory as each one could endure; /

shine forth Thou on us, who are sinners all, Thy light ever-unending //

through the prayers of the Theotokos.  O Light-giver, glory be to Thee.

Gospel [Matt. 17:14-23 (§72)]

Kontakia

Tone 1: As God, Thou didst arise from the tomb in glory, /

and Thou didst raise the world together with Thyself. /

And mortal nature praiseth Thee as God, /

and death hath vanished. /

And Adam danceth, O Master, /

and Eve, now freed from fetters, rejoiceth as she crieth out: /

Thou art He, O Christ, //

that grantest unto all resurrection.

[Kontakion of the Temple]

Glory… Tone 3: Chanting, the Church, for which thou didst suffer, O Emilian, /

doth glorify thee /

who didst show thyself to be a mighty champion of the Trinity. /

Wherefore, we honor thy memory. //

Deliver thy servants from the invasion of the heathen.

Both now... Tone 7: On the mount Thou wast transfigured, /

and Thy disciples, as much as they could bear, beheld Thy glory, O Christ God; /

so that when they should see Thee crucified, /

they would know thy passion to be willing, /

and would preach to the world //

that Thou, in truth, art the Effulgence of the Father.

Instead of “It is truly meet…” we chant the Irmos of the 9th Ode of the First Canon of

the feast, Forth Tone:

Refrain: Magnify, O my soul, the Lord transfigured on Tabor.

Irmos: Thy birthgiving was undefiled: /

God came forth from thy womb, /

and He appeared upon earth /

wearing flesh and made His dwelling among men; //

therefore we all magnify thee, O Theotokos.
