The Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee/ The Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia

Beatitudes on 12: Octoechos 4; Triodion 4, from Ode 3; Saints 4.

1.  Through food did the enemy lead Adam forth from paradise; but by the Cross hath Christ led back to it the thief who cried:  Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

2.  With Adam and the thief I worship Thy sufferings and glorify Thy resurrection; and I cry out with a splendid voice:  Remember me, O Lord, when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

3.  O Sinless One, of Thine own will Thou wast crucified and placed in the Tomb, yet Thou didst arise as God, raising up with Thyself Adam who crieth out: Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

4.  Raising up the temple of Thy body by Thy resurrection on the third day, O Christ God, Thou didst raise up Adam and his descendants who cry: Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom!

5.  From the dung-hill of the passions the humble is lifted up on high, while the proudhearted suffers a grievous fall from the height of the virtues: Let us flee from his evil ways.

6. Vainglory brings to nothing the riches of righteousness, but humility scatters a multitude of passions.  Grant then that we may seek humility, O Savior, and do Thou bestow upon us the portion of the Publican.

7.  As the Publican let us also beat our breast and cry out in compunction, “God be merciful unto us sinners”, that like him we may receive forgiveness.

8.  O ye faithful, let us increase in zeal and meekness, and let us pass our days in humility, with cries of sorrow from our heart and weeping and prayer, that we may receive forgiveness from God.

9.  Remember, O Lord, the dreadful torments which the new passion-bearers suffered for Thee, who have now sprouted forth from our race; and accept their entreaties for our salvation.

10.  O righteous Judge, Thou hast opened the kingdom of heaven unto the confessors of the Church of Russia.  Hearken, O Lord, unto their righteousness, and give ear unto their supplication for the salvation of our souls.

11.  O most divine Trinity, return us from our captivity!  We know that sin hath increased in our land more than ever before; yet grace also hath shone forth in the struggle of the new saints, who also entreat Thee, O thrice-holy God, for the salvation of our souls.

12.  Gather the dispersed; raise up the faint-hearted; call them that have renounced the holy Faith and convert them, O gracious and all-pure Virgin Mary, entreating Christ the Savior, with the holy new martyrs and confessors, for the forgiveness and salvation of our souls.

Troparia & Kontakia

Tone 1: When the stone had been sealed by the Jews, /

And the soldiers were guarding Thine immaculate Body, /

Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, /

granting life unto the world. /

Wherefore, the Hosts of the Heavens cried out to Thee, O Life-giver: /

Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ. /

Glory to Thy kingdom. //

Glory to Thy dispensation, O only Lover of mankind.

Tone 4: O ye holy hierarchs, royal passion-bearers and pastors, /
monks and laymen, men, women and children, /
ye countless new-martyrs, confessors, /
blossoms of the spiritual meadow of Russia, /
who blossomed forth wondrously in time of grievous persecutions /
bearing good fruit for Christ in your endurance: /
Entreat Him, as the One that planted you, /
that He deliver His people from godless and evil men, /
and that the Church of Russia /
be made steadfast through your blood and suffering, //
unto the salvation of our souls.

Tone 1: As God, Thou didst arise from the tomb in glory, /

and Thou didst raise the world together with Thyself. /

And mortal nature praiseth Thee as God, /

and death hath vanished. /

And Adam danceth, O Master, /

and Eve, now freed from fetters, rejoiceth as she crieth out: /

Thou art He, O Christ, //

that grantest unto all resurrection.

Glory… Tone 2:  O ye new passion-bearers of Russia, /
who have with your confession finished the course of this earth, /
receiving boldness through your sufferings: /
Beseech Christ Who strengthened you, /
that we also, whenever the hour of trial find us /
may receive the gift of courage from God.  /
For ye are a witness to us who venerate your struggle, /
that neither tribulation, prison, nor death //
can separate us from the love of God.

Both now... Tone 3:
Unto the Lord let us sinners offer groanings like those of the Publican /
and let us fall down before Him, as He is Master.  /
For He desireth the salvation of all men; /
He granteth forgiveness unto all that repent.  /
For our sake He became incarnate, //
He who with the Father is co-unoriginate God.
