6th Sunday After Pentecost / Ss. Peter and Paul

Beatitudes on 12: Octoechos: 4; St. Peter: 4, from Ode 3; St. Paul: 4, from Ode 6.

1.  Believing Thee to be God, O Christ, the thief on the cross confessed Thee in a pure
manner, crying out from the depths of his heart:  Remember me in Thy kingdom, O Lord!

2.  Together let us hymn as Savior and Creator, Him Who on the Cross budded forth life
for our race and caused the curse which originated from the tree to wither up.

3.  By Thy death hast Thou destroyed the power of death, O Christ, and Thou didst raise
up with Thyself the dead of ages past, who now hymn Thee as our true God and Savior.

4.  Arriving at Thy tomb, O Christ, the honorable women sought to anoint Thee with
myrrh, O Bestower of life; but an angel appeared to them, crying out: The Lord is risen!

5& 6.  O Peter the Apostle, the most sweet mouth of Christ God proclaimed thee as the
blessed and secure treasury of the Kingdom.  Therefore we sing thy praises.

7. Jesus the Lord has established upon the rock of thy divine teaching the unshakable
Church in which we glorify thee, O Peter.

8.  Peter is in body higher than the angels, for Christ said he would sit with him as a
judge when openly He would come again.

9.  Thou didst disdain all delightful things, for thou wast smitten by love of the Master
and the desire for the salvation of all, and thou didst choose to bear witness to Him, O
blessed Paul.  Now intercede for the whole world.

10.  As a noble emulator of the Master, thou wast sincerely clothed in Him, O Paul, and
thou wast all things to all men so that thou mightest gain all things and save the peoples;
and thou didst truly save the ends of the earth, netting them for Christ.

11.  Christ gave thee citizenship in heaven, O worthy and blessed Apostle Paul, for thou
wast a faithful servant and administrator of His mysteries, and here thou didst not desire
a lasting city.

12.  The Lord has looked down upon thee and renewed my being, and He Who is mighty
has done great things, as thou didst say, O all-blameless Mother of God.  And through
thee my God has saved me from corruption, for He is compassionate.

Troparia & Kontakia

Tone 5:  Let us, O faithful, praise and worship the Word /

Who is co-unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, /

and Who was born of the Virgin for our salvation; /

for He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh /

and to endure death, //

and to raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection.

Tone 4:  O foremost of the Apostles /

and teachers of the world, /

intercede with the Master of all, /

that He grant peace to the world //

and to our souls great mercy.

Tone 5:  Unto hades, O my Savior, didst Thou descend, /

and having broken its gates as one omnipotent, /

Thou, as Creator, didst raise up the dead together with Thyself. /

And Thou didst break the sting of death, /

and didst deliver Adam from the curse, O Lover of mankind. /

Wherefore, we all cry unto Thee: //

Save us, O Lord.

Glory… Tone 2:  Thou hast taken to Thyself, O Lord, /

the firm and divine-voiced preachers, the chief Apostles, /

for the enjoyment of Thy blessings and for repose; /

for Thou didst accept their labors and death as above all sacrifice, //

O Thou Who alone knowest the  secrets of our hearts.

Both now… Tone 6:

O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, /

O mediation unto the creator unfailing, /

disdain not the suppliant voices of sinners, /

but be thou quick, O good one, to help us who in faith cry unto thee; /

hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, //

thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.
