The Holy Glorious Prophet Elijah

Beatitudes on 8: From the canon of the Prophet, 4 from Ode 3 of the First Canon; and 4 from Ode 6 of the Second Canon.

1&2.   He Who alone sustaineth every living thing by His good will, through a raven provided thee with a banquet as a chosen guest, O Prophet.  To Him do we all cry out: Thou art our God, and there is none holy save Thee, O Lord!

3.  Grace be to the Benefactor and Guardian Who, in His ineffable providence, nourished the widow and the prophet.  To Him do we all cry out: Thou art our God, and none is holy save Thee, O Lord!

4.  O thou who didst forbid the rain-laden clouds to pour forth, when the widow of Zarephath was deprived of food, thou didst cause the remnant of her food, to increase continually; and didst cry out: None is holy save Thee, O Lord!

5.  A hymn of supplication do thou offer unto God, O most honored prophet, in behalf of all that have recourse to thy divine temple, that we may honor thee as a great helper.

6.  The mind of man doth not suffice to praise thy life as is meet, O prophet; for, beholding the transfiguration of Christ, thou wast exalted far above the noetic ranks.

7.  He that is Lord and Creator of all hath appeared to us in accordance with thy prophecy, O blessed Elijah, calling all men to the knowledge of Him, for He loveth mankind.

8.  O Mary, pure vessel of virginity, cleanse thou my mind of the gloom of the passions, and fill my heart with righteousness, O all-immaculate one.

Troparia & Kontakia

Tone 4:  The incarnate angel, the summit of the prophets, /

the forerunner of the coming of Christ, /

Elijah the glorious from on high did send down grace to Elisha, /

he driveth away diseases and cleanseth lepers. //

Wherefore, he poureth forth healings upon them that honor him.

Glory… Tone 2:  O renowned Elijah, prophet and seer of the mighty works of God, /

who by thy word didst check the torrential rain-clouds: //

pray for us to the only Lover of mankind.

Both now... Tone 6: O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, /

O mediation unto the Creator unfailing, /

disdain not the suppliant voices of sinners, /

but be thou quick, O good one, to help us who in faith cry unto thee; /

hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, //

thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.
