31st Sunday after Pentecost / Sunday of the Holy Forefathers & The Holy Prophet Daniel and the Three Youths

Beatitudes on 12, Octoechos: 4; Forefathers: 4, from Ode 3; Prophet: 4, from Ode 6.

1.  Remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom, O God my Savior, and save me,
for Thou alone lovest mankind.

2.  By a tree was Adam deceived; yet again by the Tree of the Cross was the thief saved,
who cried out: Remember me in Thy kingdom, O Lord!

3.  O Bestower of life, Who hadst broken down the gates and portals of hades, Thou hast
saved all who cry out to Thee, O Savior: Glory to Thine arising!

4.  O Thou Who by Thy burial hast made death captive, and by Thy resurrection hast
filled all with joy: remember me, in that Thou art compassionate.

5.  The zeal of Seth for his Creator is hymned throughout the world, for in his blameless
life and spiritual love he was truly pleasing unto Him, and now doth cry out in the land of
the living: holy art Thou, O Lord

6. The wondrous Enos trusted in the Spirit and with divine wisdom began to call upon the
God and Master of all with mouth, tongue and heart; and having lived on earth in a God-
pleasing manner, he received glory.

7.  Let us bless Enoch with sacred utterances, for, having been well pleasing unto the
Lord, he was translated in glory, being shown to be greater than death, as it hath been
written, since he had been a most earnest servant of God.

8. Now doth the Expectation of the nations come forth from the Virgin, and Bethlehem
doth radiantly open the shut gates of Eden, receiving the incarnate Word, Who, in the
flesh, was lad in a manager.

9&10. Beholding the angelic choirs in most radiant light, thou hast become their most
excellent emulator, delighting in the splendors of the King of all.

11. Proclaiming the salvific advent of the Word, thou didst also foretell the destruction of
the temple, the fulfillment of the law, and gifts of grace which pass all understanding.

12. Behold! the Virgin whose image the glorious Daniel beheld, shall manifestly
conceive Christ God in her womb, illumined by the Spirit.

Troparia & Kontakion

Tone 6: Angelic hosts were above Thy tomb, /

and they that guarded Thee became as dead. /

And Mary stood by the grave seeking Thine immaculate body. /

Thou didst despoil hades and wast not tempted by it. /

Thou didst meet the Virgin and didst grant us life.  //

O Thou Who didst rise from the dead, O Lord, glory be to Thee.

Tone 2:  By faith Thou didst justify the Forefathers, /
when through them Thou didst betroth Thyself aforetime /
to the Church that was from among the nations.  /
The Saints boast in glory that from their seed there is a glorious fruit, /
even she that bore Thee seedlessly.  //
By their prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.

Tone 2:  Great are the achievements of faith!  /
In the fountain of flame, as in refreshing water, /
the Three Holy Children rejoiced.  /
And the prophet Daniel proved a shepherd of lions as of sheep.  //
By their prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.

Glory… Tone 3: Enlightened by the Spirit, /

thy pure heart became the receptacle of most splendid prophecy: /

for thou beheldest far-off things as though they were present, /

and, cast into the pit, didst tame the lions.  /

Wherefore, we honor thee, //

O blessed and glorious Prophet Daniel.

Both now… Tone 6:  A hand-wrought image ye would not worship, /

O thrice-blessed ones; /

but armed with the Indescribable Essence, /

ye were glorified in your ordeal by fire./

Standing in the midst of the irresistible flame, ye called upon God: /

Speed Thou, O Compassionate One, /

and hasten, as Thou art Merciful, //

to come unto our aid, for Thou art able if Thou will it.
